The newly elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Masaka District and Masaka City have commended the NRM Bukoto Central mobilizer, Oscar Mutebi, for the role he played in supporting party candidates during the 2026 general elections.
The leaders made the remarks during NRM celebrations organised by Masaka City elders’ chairperson Ronald Ssegawa Gyagenda in Masaka City.
Speaking at the function, Kyanamukaka Town Council Mayor Hajjat Zaina Nakidde said Mutebi provided both financial and material support to several NRM flag bearers during the campaign period.
She noted that some of the assistance included facilitation for door-to-door mobilisation and distribution of agricultural inputs such as coffee seedlings and spraying machines, aimed at supporting farmers in Bukoto Central and parts of Greater Masaka.
According to Nakidde, the coordinated mobilisation efforts helped the party secure a number of elective positions across Masaka City and neighbouring districts.
Leaders at the event said the focus of the mobilisation was to strengthen the NRM’s presence in the Greater Masaka sub-region and increase support for President Yoweri Museveni.
Masaka registered nine NRM councillors out of 15 council seats, according to party officials at the celebration.
Nakidde urged fellow leaders to maintain unity and avoid internal conflicts as they begin their five-year term in office.
“We must remain united and avoid corruption in council meetings. Our responsibility now is to deliver services to the people,” she said.
Mutebi, who hails from Bukoto Central Constituency, thanked party elders and national leaders for mentorship and support.
He specifically acknowledged guidance from former Vice President Edward Ssekandi and other senior NRM figures.
In his remarks, Mutebi said his involvement in the campaigns was aimed at improving party performance in the region.
“Our goal was to mobilise communities and ensure that NRM candidates are supported at all levels,” he said.
Local leaders indicated that Mutebi has been encouraged by some party members to consider contesting for the Bukoto Central parliamentary seat in future elections, although he did not formally declare his intentions at the event.
Beyond electoral support, speakers highlighted ongoing mobilisation efforts encouraging residents to participate in government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to improve household incomes.
The celebration attracted hundreds of party supporters and local leaders from across Masaka City and District.
As the newly elected leaders assume office, party officials emphasised the need to translate campaign promises into tangible service delivery for residents of Greater Masaka.
